Lidice: triumphant film drawn from tragedy
7. June 2011One of World War II’s darkest moments — the massacre at the Czech village of Lidice — comes to the screen as a human drama. Truth and consequences are the twin themes of “Lidice,” a new film produced by Adam Dvořák, who took up the challenge of the Nazi atrocity after meeting the scriptwriter. “After three successful comedies, I was wondering what to do next. I was backstage at the Český lev Awards, when I met Zdeněk Mahler. He had won a prize for the best unrealized script, and that was how it all began,” Dvořák told Czech Position.

V hlavních rolích uvidíte Karla Rodena, Zuzanu Fialovou a Romana Luknára. Režíroval Petr Nikolaev. Do kina si nezapomeňte vzít kapesníky…”

4. April 2011Outrage is growing in the Czech Republic after the son of the country’s bloodthirsty Nazi leader said he wanted to restore the castle where his father lived during the Second World War. Reinhard Heydrich was the protector of Czechoslovakia, which was renamed the province of Bohemia and Moravia by the Nazis. He was a key organiser of the Holocaust, the head of the dreaded security section (SD) of the SS and tipped to one day succeed Hitler as Fuehrer.

4. August 2010Interesting British comment on a Sir Barnett Stross activity in Lidice: Today’s society places a huge emphasis on education. The last Labour Government coined the famous phrase, ‘education, education, education’. They say ‘you are never too old too learn’ and those words are so, so true in light of a recent story told to me by Alan & Cheryl Gerrard of Fenton’s The Art Bay Gallery.
